Travel Documents

Getting documents and proof of vaccinations in order will make it much easier for you to embark, disembark and move through customs, no matter where your cruise takes you.

The Importance of Proper Documents

Guests without appropriate documentation are subject to fines, and can be prevented from boarding airlines or ships, or disembarking in certain ports. Azamara requires guests to be personally responsible for bringing aboard all required documents, including passports, visas and proof of vaccinations. Azamara cannot be held responsible for fines, costs, penalties or interrupted or terminated trips due to a lack of proper documentation, nor can we offer refunds to guests who fail to comply with documentation requirements.

Guests are advised to do their own research before traveling. Resources to help you prepare include your travel agent, government agencies, embassies, consulates, your physician, and local health departments.

Ticketing Documents

Before you embark on your voyage and/or land program, you'll receive your personal pre-voyage documents. These documents generally are issued electronically (e-docs), either through your travel professional or directly to your e-mail if you booked direct through Azamara. You will receive your documents 30 days prior to sailing. If you book your trip seven days or less before sailing, your documents may be held at the pier, where you can pick them up prior to boarding.

Your documents confirm receipt of payment, your ticket contract, and your name as it will appear on the ship's manifest. They also contain your voyage tickets and confirmation of land and air arrangements (if you made them through Azamara). Tickets for voyage and air travel are valid only for the person named in the documents. Please review your documents carefully. If you have booked consecutive sailings, make sure you have travel documents for all elements of your trip. Protect your documents in a safe place–reproduction and shipping costs will be charged if documents must be reissued.

Do I Need a Passport?

All guests traveling on any voyage are required to carry a passport. The passport is required to have a six-month validity after the end of the voyage. Please be aware that certain countries require your passport to have between two to four blank pages for visas and stamps. If your passport lacks blank pages, we recommend contacting the relevant embassies for additional information.

Non-U.S. citizens who permanently reside in the United States are also required to carry their Permanent Resident Card (informally known as a Green Card). The name on your cruise line or airline reservation must match the name on your passport and Permanent Resident Card.

Guests who do not possess the proper documentation may be prevented from boarding their flight or ship or from entering a country and may be subject to fines.

For additional passport requirements and information on obtaining or renewing a passport, U.S. travelers should visit the State Department's website or VisaCentral's website. VisaCentral is a fast and easy solution for the passport needs of U.S. and Canadian citizens. VisaCentral can obtain passports in as little as one day. Visa Waiver Program

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) program, the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is a mandatory pre-travel authorization program applicable to U.S. bound travelers of all ages from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries. Applicable travelers will be required to complete an online application similar to the I-94W and obtain an ESTA approval prior to boarding a carrier by air or sea to the United States under the VWP.

A third party, such as a relative or travel professional, will be permitted to submit an ESTA application on behalf of a VWP traveler. The DHS recommends that an ESTA approval be obtained as soon as a VWP traveler begins to plan a trip to the United States, and no later than 72 hours before departure. Should the information you provided change after receiving your approval, updating your application online is easy. ESTA will determine almost immediately in many cases if an individual is eligible for VWP travel. Possible website responses include: Authorization Approved, Travel Not Approved, or Authorization Pending. In the event that an ESTA applicant is denied authorization to travel to the United States under VWP, he or she will be referred to U.S Department of State website for information on how to apply for a visa to travel to the United States. Applicants who receive an Authorization Pending response will need to check the website for updates within 72 hours to receive a final response.

An approved ESTA travel authorization is:

  • Valid for up to two years or until the traveler's passport book expires, whichever comes first;
  • Valid for multiple entries into the U.S. be it for business or pleasure; and
  • Not a guarantee of admissibility to the United States at a port of entry. ESTA approval only authorizes a traveler to board a carrier for travel to the U.S. under VWP. In all cases, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers make admissibility determinations at U.S. ports of entry. (For additional information please visit "Know Before You Go" at the CBP.gov website). Guests who apply electronically will be required to present their ESTA authorization approval receipt in order to board the vessel on applicable voyages.

COUNTRIES PARTICIPATING IN THE VISA WAIVER PROGRAM

Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

Travelers from the VWP countries seeking to enter the United States will also be required to have a passport book in their possession. For passport requirements for Visa Waiver Program applicants visit the CBP.gov website Pre-Travel Authorization Program for U.S.-Bound Travelers from Visa Waiver Countries. This U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) program has a mandatory effective date of January 12, 2009. On this date, subject to DHS modification, the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) became mandatory, and all travelers, regardless of age, from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries will be required to complete an online application similar to the I-94W and obtain an ESTA approval prior to boarding a carrier by air or sea to the United States under the VWP-ESTA website.

VWP AND PASSPORTS

Travelers from VWP countries who wish to enter the United States are also required to have a passport in their possession. For passport requirements for VWP applicants, please visit "Pre-travel Authorization Program for U.S.-Bound Travelers from Visa Waiver Countries" at U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.

Required Vaccinations

Guests must ensure they are medically fit for travel and vaccinated according to our latest COVID-19 protocols. As such, we remind you to check with your general practitioner at least 4 to 6 weeks before sailing to make sure you are up to date with any required immunizations or vaccines. You may need to ensure you will be permitted to visit each of the exciting destinations and tours on your itinerary (including but not limited to certification of the yellow fever vaccination required for entry into some countries). For further information, visit the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention's Traveler's Health website, call 1-800-232-4636 or visit the World Health Organization (WHO) website.

When required, please note that the yellow fever vaccine needs to be administered at least 10 days before traveling.

In addition, please be aware that some destinations may have specific inoculation requirements and guests are responsible for checking on them.

Family Legal Documents

Should the last names of a parent sailing with their minor child differ, the parent is required to present the child's valid passport book and visa (if required) or the child's birth certificate (original, a notarized copy or a certified copy). The name of the parent(s) and the child must be linked through legal documentation.

Adults who are not the parent or legal guardian of any minor child traveling with them are required to present the child's valid passport and visa (if required) or the child's birth certificate (original, a notarized copy or a certified copy) and an original notarized letter signed by at least one of the child's parents. The notarized letter from the child's parent must authorize the traveling adult to take the child on the specific voyage and must authorize the traveling adult to supervise the child and permit any medical treatment that must be administered to the child. If a non-parent adult is a legal guardian, the adult must present a certified Certificate of Guardianship with respect to the child.
